           EXPLAIN THE CONCEPT OF CONSUMERISM.

Concept of Consumerism :

  meaning of the term consumerism is, "the promotion of the consumer'S

interests". or It is thus the opposite of anti-consumerism and producerism

 

Anti-consumerism is the socio-political movement against consumerism

Producerism emphasizes the interests of the producers that is based on

belief that the producers, who have invested a lot of resources have the right to

decide what they sell and at what price.

 

Economics and Consumerism :

In the context of economics consumerism refers to economic policies placing emphasis on consumption. In an abstract sense it is the belief that the free choice of consumers should dictate the economic structure of a society

 

Market Economy and Consumerism : In the context of a market economy

economy, consumerism is used to describe the tendency of people to display

their wealth and identify strongly with the products or services they consume

and their brand names, especially those that enhance their perceived status

appeal. For instance, owning a luxury ca.r, designer clothing, expensive

jewellery, a luxury boat etc., sets them apart from the others.
