Ecosystem
The Tata Group of companies launched the Tata Nexon EV as well as an
electric vehicle ecosystem comprising public charging stations, battery
manufacturing facility, sales network and financing.
The EV ecosystem, called the
Tata UniEVerse, comprises participation from multiple Tata Group companies,
including Tata Power, Tata Chemicals, Tata AutoComp, Tata Motors Finance, and
Croma
The battery pack will be
manufactured by Tata AutoComp while the battery cells will be made by Tata
Chemicals.

While the company forays into
the personal electric mobility segment with the Nexon EV, it also marks a shift
in it's strategy from niche segments such as fleet and taxi to personal
applications.
PRICE
The electric SUV will cost Rs
13,99,000 for the base variant, while the higher-end variant will cost Rs
15,99,000. which is about 6-7 lakh cheaper when compared to the other
long-range electric cars on sales in India currently.

Select Croma outlets will
handle sales for the car in addition to Tata Motors dealerships.
Charging Station
Tata will install 300 public fast chargers
across the country by March 2020 and then take it up to 650 by March 2021.
Variant
The Nexon EV will be launched
in three variants – XM, XZ+ and XZ+ LUX.
The base Nexon EV XM will come
with features like automatic climate control, two drive modes for the motor
(Drive and Sport), keyless entry and push-button start.
The XZ+ trim adds dual-tone
colour options, 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, a 7.0-inch touchscreen
infotainment system, a rear camera, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
The top-spec XZ+ LUX variant
will come with a sunroof, leatherette seats, and automatic wipers and headlights.
Performance
The new Nexon EV gets the
automobile company's Ziptron powertrain technology.
Tata claims that the Nexon EV
will do over 300km on a single charge and 0-100kph in 9.9sec.
The Nexon EV will utilise
Tata’s Ziptron EV technology, which comes with a 30.2kWh lithium-ion battery
powering an electric motor that produces 95kW (129hp) and 245Nm of torque.

Fast-charging
Tata Motors is providing a 3.3
kW AC on-board charger with the Nexon electric SUV. The IP67-certified 30.2 kWh
lithium-ion battery, which comes with a warranty of eight years or 1.60 lakh
km, can be charged up to 80 per cent from 0 per cent using a fast charger (CCS
2) in 60 minutes and up to 100 per cent from 20 per cent using a regular
charger (any 15 amp plug point) in eight hours. The new electric Nexon boasts
of a range of 312 km that has been certified by ARAI. The standard vehicle
warranty is three years or 1.25 lakh km, with the automobile company offering a
five-year extended warranty.
The Nexon EV comes with
fast-charging capability, and
using a DC fast charger
(compatible with CCS2) can take the battery from 0-80 percent charge in just
one hour.
However, using a standard 15A
AC charger, it will take between 8-9hr to reach a full charge.
Warranty
Tata is also offering an 8-year/1,60,000km warranty on the Nexon EV's
battery and motor as standard.
Competitors
Potential EV peers also available in the India
market are the MG ZS EV which starts from ₹2,088,000 ($29,300), and the Hyundai
Kona EV from ₹2,371,858 ($33,300)
Specification
Tata Nexon EV comes with automatic
headlamps, fog lamps with cornering ability, 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels,
contrast dual-tone roof colour, automatic rain-sensing wipers and sunroof. The
cabin gets features like keyless entry, push-button start, leather-wrapped
steering wheel, wearable key, premium leatherette seats, electric tailgate,
7-inch touchscreen infotainment, fully automatic climate control and connected
car app with 35 features.
High safety standards
Tata Motors is known for producing vehicles
with high safety standards. The ICE-powered Nexon has already scored five-star
safety ratings at the Global NCAP crash tests. The new Tata Nexon EV complies
with the latest full-frontal, side-impact and offset impact crash regulations.
It new electric SUV gets safety features like dual airbags, ABS with EBD and
cornering stability control, ISOFIX anchorage for child seats and camera-based
reverse park assist.
